What Does A Virtual Assistant Do?

If you’ve been looking for ways to make money from home you have probably come across the term “virtual assistant”. But…what is a virtual assistant and what do they do?

A virtual assistant is a broad term that includes everything from bookkeeping to website design. When you work as a VA or virtual assistant you help entrepreneurs and small business owners with various small jobs remotely. You are considered an independent contractor and companies can hire you for the jobs that they need, without having to keep you on their staff.

This is beneficial to you because you’re able to accept only the jobs that you’re comfortable doing. You can work for several companies at the same time and fill up your calendar as full as you want…or leave it open. You have the freedom to choose.

A basic VA or virtual assistant can help with tasks like answering emails, commenting on posts in a Facebook group or answering phone calls for an entrepreneur or business. A more advanced VA will do tasks such as building a website or membership site to even coding a WordPress site for a small business.

Becoming a virtual assistant is an ideal job for anyone who wants to stay home and work. Moms love being able to make money from home while being available for their kids. Other people who have health issues and can’t work a traditional 9 to 5 job love the freedom of doing work from home as a VA. Teachers are also jumping on the bandwagon and creating a VA business to make money in the evenings, weekends and summers.

What skills do I need to become a virtual assistant?

The skills you need most are organizational and a go-getter attitude. If you can answer an email…you can get started. If you would like to charge a higher rate you might want to learn some new skills to help you. I teach a class on learning a popular software tool called Kajabi that entrepreneurs love and my students are able to charge anywhere from $500 to $5000 for a job. If you wanted to take on basic VA work such as posting to social media for your client you would be able to charge anywhere from $15 an hour to $45 an hour.
